Rogue Valley Vintners, Neuman Hotel Group, Oregon Wine Experience, and Oregon Wine Board invite you to apply for a three-day tour of Rogue Valley Wine Country. Rogue Valley AVA is the southernmost wine region of Oregon, bordering on Northern California. Activities will include visiting sites in Applegate, Jacksonville, Upper Rogue Valley, and Southern Rogue Valley. The second day will consist of a Grand Tasting to which wineries, breweries, distillers, and purveyors will all be invited.

Rogue Valley Wine Country is a budding region that was nominated for a Wine Enthusiast Wine Star Award for 2022 Wine Region of the Year and Troon Vineyard was nominated for 2022 American Winery of the Year. With vineyards ranging from 1,300 to 2,100 feet in elevation, the Southern Rogue Valley between Medford and Ashland basks in a beautifully arid, warm climate.

It’s also incredibly diverse. Depending on aspect and elevation, some areas produce Bordeaux-style wines like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Malbec; while other, higher-elevation sites render Burgundian varietals like nuanced Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and the French region’s lesser-known Pinot Gris. A fertile triangle between Crater lake, Medford, and Grants Pass, the Upper Rogue yields wines with concentrated character from well-drained Rogue River soil. The climate is warm and the elevation is relatively low. Vineyards here produce rich reds like Tempranillo, Zinfandel, and Bordeaux blends, and celebrated whites like Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.

The only designated sub-AVA in the Rogue Valley, the Applegate Valley’s vineyards range from 1,000 to 1,500 feet in elevation. Warmer and drier than the Illinois Valley to the west but less so than the Southern Rogue Valley to the east, loads of varieties thrive here, including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Chardonnay, and Zinfandel. Plus some interesting Rhône-style wines like Grenache, Mourvèdre, Viognier, and Roussanne. The Rogue Valley is home to more than 70 grape varieties, countless microclimates, one of the widest daily diurnal shifts, and winemakers and growers who celebrate and honor the diversity of the region.
